R.I.P. JOHN LENNON
John Lennon was an English singer, musician, and songwriter who was born in Liverpool, England on October 9th, 1940. He initially rose to fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles (who spearheaded the 1960s British Invasion). After The Beatles disbanded (in 1970), he embarked on a solo career, and recorded hits like “Give Peace a Chance”, “Just Like Starting Over”, “Woman”, and today’s song choice (that can be listened to by clicking on the provided link).
In 1987, he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 1991, he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
On this very day, December 8th 1980, John Winston Lennon was shot to death by Mark David Chapman (just outside his apartment building in New York City). He was just 40 years old at the time of his death. In memory of his passing, exactly 44 years ago today, I’ve chosen a ballad that Rolling Stone magazine ranked at #3 on its list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All-Time”.
